Which is better; raid or not to raid?

You should never, ever RAID significantly dissimilar devices. In this particular case, RAIDing the two devices would give you the worst of both worlds, the SSD's speed would be dropped to that of the HDD and the HDD's capacity would be dropped to that of the SSD. YUCK!
